The talk show host took over from Jon Stewart on the program in 2015. Noah first announced he would be leaving The Daily Show on September 30, explaining that he felt “it’s time” for him to leave.

Following Noah’s departure on Thursday, The Daily Show will be going on a break and it will return on January 17. It has been revealed who will be taking over when the show comes back, and here is everything that you need to know.

Who Is Replacing Trevor Noah on ‘The Daily Show’?

A permanent replacement hasn’t yet been found, and isn’t likely to be until the fall of next year, according to IGN. But in the meantime, the show will have a series of guest hosts.

Deadline reported on the guest hosts for the Comedy Central show, sharing that Chelsea Handler, Kal Penn, Al Franken, Sarah Silverman and Leslie Jones are among those who have been lined up.

Others who will be filling in also include Wanda Sykes, D.L. Hughley, John Leguizamo, Marlon Wayans and Hasan Minhaj.

Handler previously filled in as a late night guest host on The Jimmy Kimmel Show during Kimmel’s summer holidays, and she also has experience hosting her own show, Chelsea Lately, on E!, which aired from 2007 to 2014, and Chelsea on Netflix in 2016 and 2017.

According to the publication, the guest hosts are expected to take over the show for a period of one week each.

When he announced his departure in September, Noah recorded a video message which was shared on Twitter, and in it Noah said of the show: “It’s been absolutely amazing. It’s something that I never expected, and I found myself thinking throughout the time of everything we’ve gone through.

“The Trump presidency, the pandemic, just the journey… more pandemic and I realized that after the seven years, my time is up.

“But in the most beautiful way, honestly. I’ve loved hosting this show. It’s been one of my greatest challenges, it’s been one of my greatest joys… But after seven years I feel like it’s time,” he went on.

“I realized there’s another part of my life that I want to carry on exploring,” he added. “I never dreamed that I would be here… All I can say is thank you very much. You’ve truly made this one of the best experiences of my life.”

The Daily Show will return to Comedy Central on Tuesday, January 17.
